Hadston Leather

ABOUT

Hadston Leather

I created through a love of craftsmanship and the values it holds to me.

Having been taught the leatherworking skills by a master saddler in Cumbria, England, I witnessed first hand the level of care and attention to detail went into each item he made.

Those principles form the core of my work and are blended with the knowledge of current approaches with the aim to bring modernity to a traditional world.

Partnering with like minded businesses and brands is something I love doing and it has been great to work with Blackhorse Lane Ateliers in London, having my work stocked in their store in Coal Drops Yard and online.

Repair, reuse, repurpose has become an important piece of what I do. Being able to bring a new lease of life to an item is really rewarding and is an area I want to pursue more.

Where the Hadston name comes from…

The name Hadston comes from a village in Northumberland, the county in England where I’m from.  I’ve named all the items I make after places there.

Bio

I learnt the traditional leather working skills on a Bridlework course in 2011 and additionally a Box and Case Making course in 2013 at the Cumbria School of Saddlery taught by a master saddler.  Here I learnt how to cut, edge and stitch the leather by hand.

Originally I graduated with a BA (Hons) Fashion in 2003.  After working in the industry for the first few years I then took a change in vocation outside of the creative world.  I practiced my leather working skills in my spare time and in 2017 gained the opportunity to spend more time on this and Hadston Leather was born.

This venture is an amalgamation of all my experiences.
